Celina, Texas: How do answered prayers, mushrooms, and a disco ball come together to create one of the newest stores on the downtown Celina, Texas square? You'll either have to ask Andrew and Traci Miller, owners of Terramania, OR you'll have to listen to this episode of CelinaRadio.com.

The fact is, Terramania is quickly gaining popularity in Celina for its many earth-toned and unique offerings. Inspired by Traci Miller's taste and guided by the years she spent setting up model homes, Terramania is on the cutting edge of what's popular in Celina, Texas.

But, Terramania is much more than just furniture and decor. For example, did you know that they have a full Botanical Bar? That's right, and a workshop area where they put on a variety of classes? Oh, and owners Andrew and Traci Miller are the best! There was lots of laughter and fun while recording this episode of The Celina Radio Show Podcast.

Next time you visit Terramania, remember to check out the disco ball and the surprise in the restroom. Yes, the restroom. Remember, you heard it here first!

Transcript

Ron Lyons (00:03):
So you've got that little workshop area right there. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>. And then kind of take me

back from there. What

Traci Miller (00:07):
Else? Okay. So when you round the corner, one of the favorite things actually, is a lot of people say it's

their favorite part of the store, is my restroom, <laugh>

Ron Lyons (00:16):

<Laugh>. Welcome to CelinaRadio.com. Recorded right here in Celina, Texas, a quiet, little dusty, sleepy town that has absolutely nothing going on. Guys, I am Ron Lyons. This is CelinaRadio.com, and we've got everything in this town going on. And as of lately, a whole lot more than you probably want to imagine. You may notice that this is episode 29, and the last episode published was episode 27 with Jason Laumer, the city manager, thankfully still the city manager. And there's a missing episode in between episode 28 that I haven't published, and I'm not gonna publish it until it's time, because in episode 28, I cover all kinds of things that are going on right now with the city of Celina that most of you probably don't know about. And it involves the complete lack of leadership and the poor decisions made by some members of the Celina City Council. We'll save that for later. As of today, I want you to listen to this episode, and especially in the beginning, if you haven't already read the description, see if you can figure out who it is. We're gonna have a good time, guys, so sit back and let's get started.

Ron Lyons (02:05):

All right, guys. I am here right now with somebody that I'm not actually going to share their identity with you. They are their local favorites. They've been around for a while. We're gonna give you a couple of clues by virtue of I'm gonna ask them some questions, and at some point you're probably gonna figure out who they are. So first of all, guys, how are we doing?

Traci Miller (02:27):
We're doing good. A little nervous first, first podcast.

Ron Lyons (02:29):
Yeah. Yeah. Well, and tell me a little anxiety. Are you feeling pretty at ease with it? How, how does it

feel

Traci Miller (02:36):
Getting better? I, I have my hat on.

Ron Lyons (02:38):

You've got your hat on, and, and, and your hat. Number one, there's so clue. Number one is your hat is part of your, part of who you are, part of your identity. And somehow you were able to get the hat over the headphones. I did.

Traci Miller (02:54):
That was, that's, I made it work.

Ron Lyons (02:55):

That is literally the first time I've ever seen that happen. That's pretty awesome. So, so we are in the little blue house off the square right here in Celina, Texas, and you guys are closely related to the Square as well. So tell me mm-hmm. <Affirmative>, how do you like having a business? Clue number two, how do you like having a business on the square in Celina, Texas?

Traci Miller (03:17):
I love it. You get to see everything that's going around in Celina. I love having my doors open and

cleaner. Two, i, I see a lot of people going to get barbecue. <Laugh>.

Ron Lyons (03:28):
<Laugh>. That's awesome. That's awesome. And, and what do you think, are you, are you loving the

square of Celina, Texas? Is it just one of the most amazing little places down here? Yeah, I think it's

Andrew Miller (03:38):
Great. That's Norman Rockwell,

Ron Lyons (03:40):
You know? It is. It is, it is. Somebody said the other day, I think actually the mayor said the Christmas

thing, that it's, it's kinda like a hallmark

Traci Miller (03:47): Kind of deal. Exactly,

Ron Lyons (03:47):
Yes. And, and that is, that is definitely. So, so let's, let's, let's start giving away a few more clues here. So

how long have you been in your current location on the Square?

Traci Miller (03:59):
Five months. Only five months.

Ron Lyons (04:02):
Wow. Well, that eliminates a lot of different places right there. So give, give us a few hints about what

you do.

Traci Miller (04:10):

Oh, okay. So I deal with lots of dried botanicals lots of pottery and vases. Okay. Gosh. oh my gosh. The pink door <laugh>. No, what he said, what do we do? What do I do? But clues pink door. Oh, pink door is one. Everybody does love the pink doors and pink awning.

Ron Lyons (04:31):
Pink awning is there. So is there, it's

Traci Miller (04:34):

Really called likable sand, but <laugh>

Ron Lyons (04:36):
Likable sand. Okay. All right. There, there's the real name, right? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Is there a meaning

behind having those colors on the door and the awning?

Traci Miller (04:46):
Actually no. Meaning just, they worked, I liked the junction position of the, the light, the feminine

against the really black fox dark side of the building. That right. It was painted

Ron Lyons (04:59):

<Laugh>. Right. And that's awesome. So, so if I were gonna walk around the square, there would be barbecue close by. Yes. There would be a very specifically colored door and awning. How would you describe what you do in there? What is that?

Traci Miller (05:16):

We do lots of, lots of rearranging of furniture. Ride <laugh>. No, we, seriously? No. We have a fun botanical bar, a 12 foot table that someone built, can't tell you who yet. Nice. built. That's really the heartbeat of the store.

Ron Lyons (05:33):

Wow. That's very, very interesting. Okay. So guys, in case you don't know right now, I am actually sitting here with Andrew and Tracy Miller from Ter Mania. Ter Mania is just one of the latest and greatest big things going on in Celina, Texas. So let's, let's talk about Terra Mania. How's things going? Atter mania to me, it's rocking over there. I love it. My wife loves to go in there, spend a ton of money, and have a lot of fun. We were over there the other night, ran into you guys in the

Traci Miller (06:04): Store. It was popping that

Ron Lyons (06:05):

Night. It was greatness. And that was at the the Christmas event. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative> on the square. And we, I think we got to do exactly what you're talking about. The botanical table. Is that where we were making the ornaments and stuff? Is that what that is?

Traci Miller (06:18):

Actually, that's another part of the store. Oh, wow. So there's something different. There's more. Yes. That part is. We also have an area where we do workshops. Okay. So from ladies to kids, to Couples that all happens kind of around the corner to the back of the store. Gotcha. Also, kind of what I also call the potting shed area. It has this really cool vibe back there, you feel like in your, in a different part of world.

Ron Lyons (06:42):

So you've got this crazy awesome place going on. There was a lot of buildup to it. People were very, very excited about it coming, like, when's that opening? And all that kinda stuff. I remember, I'm gonna be honest here. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>, we may have walked up and tried to peek in a time or two to see

if we could see what was going on. And, and my wife was very excited about that. And I have to say, it's impressive. It's very impressive. I love that story. That's fantastic. So, I know you had been in a, in a particular position, and then you got basically furloughed, like a, an unbelievably lot of people did. Yeah.

Traci Miller (07:15):
Dreams happen during that time.

Ron Lyons (07:17):
Take, take, take me back through those steps. What happened?

Traci Miller (07:19):

Okay. So was furloughed for three months. So while I was at home during those three months I began to wonder, because I like to stay busy. I like to create and do things. And so as I was sitting at home, I began to ask myself, what is it about friends and family that they love when they come over to our house? We love to entertain. So really entertaining was really one of my first loves. And so I realized that the earth tones that I use within my house is one of those, just makes everything feel warm and cozy and why people love hanging out at my house. So I began to doodle and come up with different names, and Terra means of the Earth and Mania means crazy about, so Terramania was actually born that way. Nice. So went to Andrew and he said, let's, let's just get your domain name you know, taken care of.

Traci Miller (08:13):

So we registered that. And then, you know, some months went by or, and then I was like, well, how am I gonna get started? What do I do now? And I worked for a lady in downtown McKinney, and one of the things that she used to do was she would have home shows where, literally everything in her house, I didn't go as crazy as her, but from her bed to the couch, the light fixture, she would literally sell everything. She would open it up and people would come and shop. So I said, well I know how to go to market and let's go get some things. So I literally took down all my home decor went to market and got stocked up, redecorated the mantle made our dining room into the, what is now the botanical bar station. So I had my VS in there had all the botanicals in there. So when people came over I could do an arrangement. And then since we were empty nesters literally the house became a store. So we lived for about a year and a half, a year and a half in our house as as a

Ron Lyons (09:18):
Store. So you, you literally lived in the early version of Ter Mania? Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative> at

Traci Miller (09:22): Home, at home,

Ron Lyons (09:23):
Getting to test out all of these things and experiments, see what people liked and didn't like. And, and

obviously it went well.

Traci Miller (09:31):

It went well. Poor Andrew didn't have anywhere to put his feet up on a coffee table for a long time. <Laugh>. I mean, it was, it was everywhere. So, but about every other month I would have what I would

call a home show. Right. Would have champagne and tea sandwiches, and just have an open house and invite people over, and they would come shop. Right? And then I figured my friends were gonna run outta money here pretty soon, I gotta meet strangers. Right. So I was like, well I, I need to do some popups. So started doing some popups down in Frisco down at the Star. And then in the meantime, Andrew's parents had moved to Celina. And so they're around the corner. And one night they came to the Friday night market, right? And they came back and they said, Hey, did you know that Celina has popups?

Traci Miller (10:20):

And I, I did not know that. So she's like, you should do one. So, okay. So the next month we went and visited Alexis down at the e edc Right. And talked with her, and we were like, whoa, <laugh>, what's happening in Celina? So we were like, let's give it a shot. Let's see, let's see how long people take to me, you know, setting up here. And right from the first one out of the gate, it was, people were like, do you have a store? Are you gonna have a store? Would you do a store here? And then people would ask us, can we help you? Can we help you take down your booth? Can you set up your booth? And we had never experienced anything like that. Just the take on the people from the time that we started doing popups.

Ron Lyons (11:07):

So you kind of fell in love with Celina, just kind of threw a series of events that kind of led you over here doing a little popup, and you get to inter interact with the people. And before you know it, you're falling in love with Celina. And as of right now, you guys don't actually live in Celina, but you have chosen Celina to make your business. Yep. And so, so tell me, what do you love about Celina? Like, is it, is it the people? Is that kind of really the thing for you? Like, what, what makes Celina so amazing for you that makes you want to say setup shop here. Mm-Hmm. And not, you know, you could go anywhere. You could go down to Dallas or Plano or anywhere. Yep. Why, why

Traci Miller (11:43):

Celina? And I've already been in McKinney and I knew McKinney was not it. I've already worked down there. And so one of the things I really did during that time is I had three prayer requests that I lifted up to God. And one of them was, dear Lord, don't put me in a strip mall.

Ron Lyons (12:01):
<Laugh>. Yeah. Right. So you didn't wanna be in the strip

Traci Miller (12:02):

Mall? I did not wanna be in a strip mall. Being in a community and somewhere that we could serve was really number one. Right. I wanted a place where we would know families, know their dogs, know their aunts, know their kids, and just be part of their family as, as part of their family as well. Right. And then second, I had a certain amount of square footage that I wanted to have mm-hmm. <Affirmative> and and then just a building that had just character.

Ron Lyons (12:31):

Right. So, so important for your kind of a business. Yes. Mm-Hmm. <affirmative>. So, so, so Celina spoke to you and, and it checked off all those boxes, and you have a fantastic location over there. Yes. So,

Andrew, tell me, what is it like following along <laugh> chasing your wife's dreams of doing this store and, and, and going through that process?

Andrew Miller (12:53):

It's been exciting, actually. It's been a ton of work you know, at the time having, you know, a full-time day job, so to speak, and then doing all this on the side, you know, so the, the quote unquote side hustle that everybody's got.

Ron Lyons (13:08):

A hundred percent. And let, let's tell everybody. So you actually, believe it or not, you're not fully married to Ter mania, or haven't been, although lately you've been more involved in it. What, give us a little bit of that kind of, that backstory.

Andrew Miller (13:22):

Yeah, so my background, so I'm a, I'm a by trade. I'm been in the pharmaceutical business for about 30 years commercial sales executive. And like so many others recently have experienced the downsizing, elimination of my positions kind of deal. So if there's any recruiters out there, <laugh>,

Ron Lyons (13:39): He

Andrew Miller (13:39):

Might be Right. Might be looking for, he might be looking right. And so, yeah. So, you know, this is, I don't know if that's, you know, obviously it was supposed to happen, but it may be also God's plan to, you know, do something else or, you know, it's definitely been pushed out of the nest, so to speak. Right. And so yeah, it gives me a great opportunity during the holiday season and shopping season to really support and help.

Ron Lyons (14:00):

And probably at a time, I mean, honestly, you're five months in, you're, you're facing Christmas, the holidays and everything else. What a great time to have your husband available to you to help out with the store and to really just kind of be there for you. I mean, it isn't, it, it's kind of a blessing in a way, even though it's a challenge because, you know, you don't, losing a job's never fun or easy mm-hmm. <Affirmative>, but it's gotta be a blessing at the same time.

Traci Miller (14:23):
Oh gosh, yes. He's there just like today, the Sonos went down and he's on the phone doing a diagnostic,

and I'm like, oh my God, what am I gonna do when you're gone?

Ron Lyons (14:35): That's

Traci Miller (14:35): Awesome.

Ron Lyons (14:36): That's

Andrew Miller (14:36): Awesome. Tech's not her thing.

Ron Lyons (14:37):

Right, right, right. So, so, so describe to me, you were, you were telling me before, just a little bit about kind of, so I understand how you guys got there and everything, and it's, it's very earthy mm-hmm. <Affirmative> and very much like that. Obviously you guys have a strong faith mm-hmm. <Affirmative>, and this seems to be like just, I don't know, very, very divine in a lot of ways. It is. So do you, do you, when you, when you have that kind of, that earthy feel and stuff, does that, does that kind of relate also to you as a person, like who you are? Are you very mm-hmm. <Affirmative> kind of that, you know, granola, earthy, kinda, is

Andrew Miller (15:12): That No,

Ron Lyons (15:13): No,

Andrew Miller (15:14): No, no way.

Ron Lyons (15:15):
No. Very, very interesting. Hold on. I've gotta ask him about this. Okay. Yeah. Here's the

Andrew Miller (15:20):
Exchange. Tell me he's not granola whatsoever. No, of course. Define granola, but, right. Not that I

would not say granola. Wow.

Ron Lyons (15:27):
Very interesting. So this, that means then that this is something that just comes from within you that

you have a real knack and talent for.

Traci Miller (15:36):

So I guess too, really, it's really more about a feeling. And I realize when I was coming up with the name, it's really about the feeling, even the feeling when they came in my home. And so that was a, something else I wanted to people to feel like, and it kind of does, when you walk through our front doors, it really feels like you're walking into my house. So that was one of the number one feelings. Like you would just walk in and like, Hey, let's, let's sit down, let's talk, let's, can I get you a drink and coffee and let's chitchat. So really, it's a feeling. And I, I get that a lot when people come in and as they're leaving, they go, wow, it feels really good in here. That's true. It's super cozy. Or it is true. I feel like I just went to the

spa <laugh>. Right, right. So to me, I'm like, check, you know, done, I, I, I've reached my goal on how that's what I wanted people to, to have a feeling. It's,

Ron Lyons (16:27):
It's like, thank God, it's a, it's an experience.

Traci Miller (16:28):
It's experience. Mm-Hmm.

Ron Lyons (16:29):

<Affirmative>. And they have a good experience. Like, I want to come in there, like, I, I can't come in there and like, sit down on your stuff and everything, but I, I'm walking around my arms crossed, so I don't

Traci Miller (16:37):
Touch anything. I know, I know a lot of parents

Ron Lyons (16:39):

<Laugh>. Yeah. And I, and I'm looking around, I'm like, God, this is, I'd love my house to have like all this stuff. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>, that would be amazing. And that's gotta be a good thing, cuz it is very appealing even to me. And I'm not the guy that goes out and does that stuff. Yeah. So, Andrew, tell me, before you got involved with Haria and your, and helping your wife chase this dream and everything, were you, so were you, were you very savvy with all of this stuff with like, home decor and everything? Or is this something that you're learning kind of as you go from her?

Andrew Miller (17:08):

Mm. I'm probably learning, learning a little bit from her as far as, you know, how to describe stuff and that kind stuff. Right. I'm, I'm, I would classify myself as, classify myself as probably pretty handy. Right, right. Yeah. So from, from putting stuff together and building stuff, maybe

Ron Lyons (17:22):
More of a behind the scenes

Andrew Miller (17:24):
Behind a, I'm very much behind the scenes type of guy, <laugh>, even though I'm, you know, sales

executive. Right. You

Ron Lyons (17:29): Know. No, hey, I

Andrew Miller (17:30):
Understand. I don't mind the spotlight every now and then, but Yeah. For her it's behind the scenes. So

Ron Lyons (17:34):

With, with all that stuff going on, you're probably around downtown quite a bit.

Andrew Miller (17:38):
Oh yeah. I'm the, I'm here seven days a week.

Ron Lyons (17:40):
So, so you're, so you're a hundred percent then familiar with the restaurants that we have on the

Traci Miller (17:45): Square. Yes.

Ron Lyons (17:46):
Yes. And I'm gonna put you on the spot just a little bit. Yes. Give me an idea of a place in something that

you guys might go there and order.

Traci Miller (17:53):

Oh, well, I'll tell you my favorite, and I usually do it with when girlfriends come, Uhhuh to town to see me. Right. I get away. And my favorite place is Toast and Walnut, of course. Nice. Yes. But it's the Hot P cheese.

Ron Lyons (18:05):
Oh yeah. Isn't that insane? Something I can relate to. I

Traci Miller (18:09):

Like it. Yes. My mom and aunt came in October. My mom came to see the store for the first time. She lives in Shreveport. Right. And we went there for lunch and we ordered one I guess one appetizer and that was, it just split between four of us. And had lunch. And then later that evening we were still on the square shopping and walking around. Right. And it came to be dinnertime, <laugh>. My mom says, let's go back and get more mented cheese. You've got kidding. We did. And we got two more. Not only one more, but we got two more rounds. It just wasn't enough. Yeah.

Ron Lyons (18:43):
No lie. So Joey is listening to this, which, which he does listening to this then, then there's, there's proof

right now, Joey, that you're your

Traci Miller (18:51):
Don't get rid of M cheese,

Ron Lyons (18:53):

It's just Yeah, that is, that's a, that's a hot item over there. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>. So Andrew, what about you? You got any favorites? Anything on the square restaurants that you prefer? Things that you like?

Andrew Miller (19:03):

I'll, I'll take the Mexican pizza at Papa Gallo's. There you go. Yes. I'll take this. The man stuff. Right. I'll take the I'll take the lean brisket and jalapeno sausage at tenders. <Laugh>, you know.

Traci Miller (19:14):
Yeah. <Laugh>. He makes his rounds.

Andrew Miller (19:15):
I mean, this morning was Kolaches and Donuts, you

Ron Lyons (19:19): Know, so There

Andrew Miller (19:19): You go. So there you go.

Ron Lyons (19:20):
I like it. I liked it. So tell me this, A lot of people have said they've got great experiences with the city

coming in as a new business and things like that. Have you had a good experience with the

Traci Miller (19:31):

City of We, we have had an awesome, I mean, it couldn't have been any better just from the day we met with Alexis with the edc mm-hmm. <Affirmative> so supportive given us grants to, to get started. Anytime that we, during our buildout for those six months, never had any, I mean, we could call in, Hey, we're ready for our, they were there the next day. Nice. I mean, it, the city has just been wonderful.

Andrew Miller (19:59):

Yeah. It's been a real, very real actual pleasure, you know? Very good. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>, you know, and you know, I don't know if there'll ever be another location or a Nu next thing. Right. So the comparison will always be our experience with this one. So,

Ron Lyons (20:13): So they set the bar

Andrew Miller (20:14):
Behind, they set the bar, you know. Right. Really, really high

Ron Lyons (20:17):

Course. Well, that's great. That's very, very good news. And obviously tons of people are coming. This is a line and you're, you're banking on that. You've got a store here. Now you, you need the consumers. But you know, there's this kind of, this back and forth thing in town. A lot of people wanna hold on to small town. Other people may have more of a desire for it to grow, grow quickly. Where would you say you are on that

Traci Miller (20:39):

Scale? Being on the square, it keeps you grounded on the, just the old school, the old town feel. So you, you feel that all the time. Cuz we're on the square, so it's hard to really see the growth that's happening, you know? Right. Miles down the

Ron Lyons (20:54):
Road. Yeah. You don't see the big neighborhoods and stuff cuz you're very connected to our past by

virtue of the square.

Traci Miller (21:01):

Yes. But just hearing how many people, when my home gets built, when my home gets built, I'll be in <laugh>. So I'm like, that houses are coming. Yeah. So that's, you know, that's exciting on that end. The growth of

Ron Lyons (21:13):

Celina. It is. And, and I think that no matter what, obviously the growth is coming, there's no, there's no getting around that. And it's been said many, many times, I'm certainly not the original person to say it, but the Square is our anchor mm-hmm. <Affirmative> to that small town feel and to kind of keep us, you know, kind of focused on community and things like that mm-hmm. <Affirmative>. And I think that they're doing a fantastic job right now. And I love the fact that you guys are right there with Terra mania. Mm-Hmm. <affirmative>. So, so one of my questions would be, Andrew, do you guys, do you foresee that you'll ever grow this? Or is this let's,

Andrew Miller (21:45):

Let's grow it. Right. You know, bigger and better <laugh>. So I don't know what that growth looks like though. I don't know if it's, you know, multiple locations and, you know, we're all stretched thin and, you know, kind of all over Dallas or other places. Or if it's, you know, we have the building, you know, the, the place there on the square and it's, and it's something completely different but still tied sort of together. Right. you know, incorporating the, the love to entertain and, you know, I share that too. So, you know, it's always good to have groups of people together and share in community type type things.

Ron Lyons (22:20):
Give me an idea for a person who's never been in your store. What's it like? You walk in the front door,

oh, what

Traci Miller (22:27):
Happens? And it smells so good.

Ron Lyons (22:29):
That, that's critical. Right?

Traci Miller (22:30):

That's a big, big deal. Smell is one. That is probably the, even people walking by. It's our wonderful candle line from Spain. <Laugh>. There you go. So it, it really, incense and smell is one of my big things too. It creates part of that feeling Right. Part

Ron Lyons (22:45):
Of that experience. So

Andrew Miller (22:46):
I gotta jump in here. Yeah. It's not the first thing you do

Traci Miller (22:49): <Laugh>. It is

Andrew Miller (22:51): <Laugh>. It's the music.

Traci Miller (22:53): Oh, well, yes. I spent,

Andrew Miller (22:54):
I spent good hard money to put speakers outside,

Ron Lyons (22:58):
Speaking of the sono mm-hmm.

Traci Miller (23:00):
<Affirmative> going down and and music is one very one. Yeah. I have certain music. So one we used to

fight over the music and he likes the

Andrew Miller (23:08): Old other stuff.

Traci Miller (23:10):
He's right. And I'm like, absolutely not <laugh>.

Ron Lyons (23:13):
That's so awesome. Yeah. So, so, so in both cases you, you get this, you get the music. Mm-Hmm.

<affirmative>, you get the smell mm-hmm. <Affirmative> and then walk Me,

Traci Miller (23:22):

Bring me in. Okay. So then it, it does it almost looks like a hung, you see a fireplace there that we actually went and dug out of somebody's yard that we saw on Facebook market and redid it and it kind of looks like a stucco something out of, you know, Santa Fe or something. But redid that. So you kind of do feel like you're walking into my home. There's there's couches for sale and chairs and just like a little vignette, like you would just come and sit down right there. But literally everything is for sale. So that's part of it. And then one of my favorite things, it is not for sale, is my disco ball. <Laugh>.

Ron Lyons (24:01):

Oh, your disco

Traci Miller (24:02):

Ball. I have a big vantage disco ball that I found years ago with a lady that I worked with. And I found it at Round Top and it came home with me and it's just floated around my house, <laugh> from room to room. And I said, if I ever have a store one day, this is going in the store.

Ron Lyons (24:20):
So, where I don't, I'm trying to remember. I don't, I don't remember seeing that in your store.

Traci Miller (24:25):
Where is it? It's, it's kind of above the checkout stand. Okay. So it's, it's big. You won't miss it now.

Ron Lyons (24:30):
<Laugh>. So, so it's actually hung on the ceiling.

Traci Miller (24:32):
Yep, yep, yep. Andrew hung

Ron Lyons (24:33):
It up. 1970S style disco ball kind of deal. Weird

Traci Miller (24:36):
Ball. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>. Yep. Yep. How, how, how much would you say that weighs?

Andrew Miller (24:39):
It's heavy <laugh>. 30, probably 30 inches around.

Traci Miller (24:43):
Yeah. I just wanted people to just remember life and it was just, you know, remember to relax and have

fun and just a little bit of a party. Very

Ron Lyons (24:51): Nice. Yeah. It doesn't,

Traci Miller (24:53):
It doesn't work. There's no light, there's no, it doesn't spin. You know, I didn't wanna make anybody

dizzy or sick when they came in.

Ron Lyons (25:00):

Kind. Kind of sits up there and tells a story in a silent, visual way. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>. Okay. I got it. That's awesome. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>. So as you move back through the store, more items for sale mm-hmm. <Affirmative>. And then you get back there to that section. I think it's like your little workshop type area. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>, talk to me about

Traci Miller (25:15):

That. Okay. and that workshop area is there's couple, there's shelves and it kind of looks like you're in an outdoor potting shed. Lots of pottery and greenery. Just really earthy right now. It's decked out for Christmas too. But my style of Christmas is mushrooms, <laugh> mushrooms, mushrooms, <laugh>. That's kind of one of my signatures. I have all kinds of like, real mushrooms. But right now it's like fun. Felt little mushrooms that have little glitter and

Ron Lyons (25:47):
I'm literally having a hard time following you

Traci Miller (25:49):
Mushrooms. Yeah. I don't do redinger and Christmas it'ss fairyland back there.

Ron Lyons (25:53):

Somebody, somebody says it's, it's done in Christmas. So I'm in envisioning Christmas and then know <laugh>, but my kind of Christmas and I'm like, okay, what's her kind, maybe earthy. Oh yeah. No mushrooms. Mm-Hmm.

Traci Miller (26:05): <Affirmative>. Yeah, <laugh>,

Ron Lyons (26:07):

<Laugh>. You get back there to your work area back there, your tables and stuff. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative> and they, they're very, very nice. That whole area back there is incredible story. Talk to me about that. Like what, what all kinds of things do you have to use and, and how is that space used, et cetera.

Traci Miller (26:21):

Okay. So first of all, a cool story on the workshop tables that are back there. We drug those home from round top. They're actually art tables that were from Mount Pleasant High School. Wow. They even came with gum on the bottom still. Oh, that's nice.

Ron Lyons (26:36): Nice. Nice. Add-On.

Traci Miller (26:38):

Yes. So those were super heavy and Andrew built the bottoms, the base to 'em, put 'em on castor so we could wheel 'em around if we needed to. Right. So each table can hold up to eight, maybe 10 if we really squeeze in people each. So it was even funny, like as we were working on those in the garage, we had to go grab neighbors to help us flip 'em over to get the tops and bottoms back on. Right. I mean, it's super heavy. But fun workshops. We've done a couple of botanical wreath workshops. Okay. Got three of those. We've also had a local artist TC Hawk come in. He does leather and I thought it would be fine cuz I, I'm kind of a seventies girl. We did leather bracelets, so he taught us how to stamp and die or our own bracelets.

Traci Miller (27:24):

Very cool. Yeah. So that, and that was fun cause we had guys and girls come to that. So, and our latest one has been boho ornaments, so Oh wow. <Laugh> very nice. Yeah. Well one of our girls she's always, that works for me. Her name is Arden and she's made those for years. And I love that she's able to share part of her talent too with, I mean, we've had ki last night we had five moms and seven kids Billy up around the workshop tables and make some for their teachers and friends. So very,

Ron Lyons (27:52):
Very nice. Mm-Hmm. <affirmative>. So my daughter made with, with help from Yes. Your, your people.

It was pretty amazing. They all kinda wrapped around her and helped her. Mm-Hmm. <affirmative> oh,

Traci Miller (28:02): That's right. That

Ron Lyons (28:02):

Night. Make an ornament. Mm-Hmm. <affirmative>. And it was super, super, super cool. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>. So yeah, it was a lot of fun. Bad news from that is we have you have a cat? No, we have a pig. Oh, that's right. We have a pig who lives in the house and the pig found the ornament and was able to just reach it, uhhuh and pull it off. Good news is, oh, we got it into like, two big separate pieces and dad was able to make

Traci Miller (28:27):
It open. Bring it in. We'll, we'll re remake it forward. <Laugh>. It was a

Ron Lyons (28:30):
Great experience though. It was fantastic. That was a lot of fun. So, so you've got that little workshop

area right there mm-hmm. <Affirmative>. And then kind of take me back from there.

Traci Miller (28:37):
What else? Okay. So when you round the corner, one of the favorite things, actually it's a lot of people

say it's their favorite part of the store is my restroom. <Laugh>.

Ron Lyons (28:47):
Okay. <Laugh>. Andrew. Andrew, I just, let me just, let me just say something real quick. Right. Andrew,

you live a very incredible and interesting life. Yeah.

Traci Miller (28:56):
Thank you. He's long for the ride.

Ron Lyons (28:58): <Laugh>. Oh my.

Andrew Miller (28:58):
Thank you. I live in a constant state of redecorating.

Ron Lyons (29:01):
I I have been here, I have been here, we've been talking for just a short time and already we've covered

disco balls, <laugh> mushrooms, and the favorite part of the place.

Traci Miller (29:11):
The restroom. The restroom,

Ron Lyons (29:12):
Yeah. So this is, I've gotta hear about this. Tell me.

Traci Miller (29:15):

Okay, so <laugh> it is funny, I do tell people and why you're back there. Go to the restroom, they're like, what? And I'm like, mm-hmm. <Affirmative>, you're, you'll know. So when they do walk in, should I give it away so when people come, they can see it for themselves? Give

Ron Lyons (29:27):
Us, give us, give us a little, give a,

Andrew Miller (29:29):
There's somebody there that watches you.

Traci Miller (29:32):
No, it's not, it's not a person,

Andrew Miller (29:33): It's not a person,

Ron Lyons (29:33): Not a person. A but

Traci Miller (29:35):
Some, there's, there's something in there that's really cool as you <laugh>. Very interesting. Go to the

restaurant. Let's

Ron Lyons (29:40):
Don't, yeah, let's don't tell, tell 'em what it is.

Traci Miller (29:41): Yeah.

Ron Lyons (29:42):
Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>. But let's just,

Traci Miller (29:44):
There's a, there's a, there's a special guest in there, <laugh>. We

Ron Lyons (29:46):
Need to go. Toter mania. Is it, so is it one restroom or

Traci Miller (29:50):
There two? It's one, it's one big one. And then it's really pretty. So the wallpaper in there.

Ron Lyons (29:54):
So I would even be able to go in there and see,

Traci Miller (29:56):
Oh, you could probably have eight people in there. You could have a party in there. Oh wow. I should

have put the disco ball in

Ron Lyons (29:59):
There. Disco ball goes in the restroom with the secret whatever. Uhhuh.

Traci Miller (30:02): <Affirmative>.

Ron Lyons (30:03): Oh my goodness.

Traci Miller (30:05):

Yeah. So, and one of my favorite things in there too is the wallpaper I put in there. Right. It's in my house and everybody always talks about this wallpaper. So I thought this is store's kind of based on my house. So I, I put the wallpaper in there. Nice. And then I have this beautiful green velvet drape from ceiling. How tall are our ceiling's? 14 feet. That

Ron Lyons (30:25):
Part of the building. I think

Traci Miller (30:27):

Probably 14. The lower. Yeah. No, nothing's ever a square. Nothing square. Yeah. So yeah, this beautiful green velvet drape, you know, my gone with the wind is <laugh>. Wow. Drape that hangs all the way down. Nice. Yeah. Very, very nice. Pretty. So very, anyway, people say they love my bathroom. <Laugh>.

Ron Lyons (30:42):
That's awesome. Well, now I'm kind

Traci Miller (30:44):

Of loving you. Just go hang out

Ron Lyons (30:45):

In there. Mania. So I can see all the stuff now. Yeah. I was just kind of taken mm-hmm. <Affirmative> taken aback by the the actual furnishings and the, those things. So talk to me about the style of the things that you sell. How do you describe that to somebody? So it's not like, you know, oh, it's Italian or it's country, or it's this or that. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>, what,

Traci Miller (31:03):
What is it? Oh my gosh. So that has probably been the number one question that people ask me.

They're like, so what are you?

Ron Lyons (31:11):
Yeah, it's a, it's a very impress,

Traci Miller (31:13):

They, they do wanna categorize me because, you know, they don't really know how to describe it. It really is a true mixture of I would say boho, you know, bohemian. Right. a little bit of southwest mid- century modern vintage. It's got, you could say there's rustic. I like really putting on putting something formal that may have brass or mirrored on it. Right. Right. Next to something Harding crunchy and old, super vintage. Wow.

Ron Lyons (31:46):
So one thing that I've heard about and I don't really understand is that you've got something like a, a

botanical bar or something like that. Tell, tell me about that.

Traci Miller (31:54):

Okay, so first off about the botanical bar, Andrew built me that botanical bar of, of course I came to him with another honey, do a picture. Hey, can you build this for me? Because I knew from having the table at home in my dining room, it was only eight feet long and I wanted a 12 footer. Oh, wow. So, so it's pretty big. And it's three feet wide. I think so. So I wanted a place, it's not,

Ron Lyons (32:21): It's four feet

Traci Miller (32:21):
Wide. It was four feet, excuse me,

Ron Lyons (32:24):
Technical. Yes, yes. It's 12 by four. So you got a 12 by four table. And what, what happens there? What

Traci Miller (32:30):

Do you do? This is where some magic happens. So this is where all the ladies come and we, we kind of belly up to the bar, I say and it holds the botanicals. And what, what is a botanical? It's dried flowers and

pompous grass and just eucalyptus leaves. There's all kinds of different, it's something for everybody there. So we e either sell it by the stem or we can sell it by the bunch. You can walk out with just botanicals if you want. But behind the botanical bar is a huge hutch. And I have all kinds of vase, all kinds of pottery to choose from, from little blood vs. Up to you know, big, huge ones. So, but one of the unique features is you don't have to buy a, a vase from me. You can bring one from home. Oh

Ron Lyons (33:16): Wow. Yeah. Very

Traci Miller (33:17):

Nice. Yep. No extra cost. People bring us bowls, people bring us bases. I've had a lady bring me a window pane that her husband put a back backing to it and she wanted to just to fill it with botanicals. So very nice. She hung it on the wall. So there is we, we ask you questions, you know, is there a botanical that you like the most? Is there one that you don't wanna use? Where is it going? Maybe even take a picture of where you think you're gonna put it so I can kind of get a vibe of your house. How tall we can go. So when we do arrangements and we do it right there on, on the, on the spot, so you don't need an appointment. If you're having, we've had groups of girls come in for a fun girls' day. I would say if you have over eight girls message me so I can make sure I have enough of, of my girls. Right. Working to, you know, to spend time with you. Sometimes if you have a big group, you can rent a space after hours and have a, have a party, you know, afterwards, arranging and botanicals and B Y O B. So yeah.

Ron Lyons (34:24):
So what in the world leads you, like, is that, did you have some experience doing that kind of stuff? Or

how, how did you, or did you just dream this up and think, this is awesome?

Traci Miller (34:32):

I, I, I did not, I don't have any floor background, but no, I just, it's just always creating and there's so many fun things to use the botanicals for. I mean, we're always coming up with, put it on a headband, put it on a bet and let's glue it to this or that doesn't make an ornament

Andrew Miller (34:50):
<Laugh>, she doesn't have any formal

Traci Miller (34:52): Drink,

Andrew Miller (34:52):
Let me go to school and learn how to do this type of stuff. But it comes out, we've been married for 28

years, she's always been doing this kind of stuff. So

Ron Lyons (35:00):

She's got a lot of real world experiences. Yeah, yeah, yeah. At times it's actually better, right? Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>. Yeah. So you're actually doing it and now as part of your dream, you've got this botanical table that your husband basically put together for you and you have girls come in and you help them

mm-hmm. <Affirmative> and or I, I guess a guy could come in and do it too. Sure. If they were so inclined. It might not typically be something, you know, I might be more willing to,

Andrew Miller (35:24):
To be for a gift or Sure. Something like that. Yeah,

Ron Lyons (35:26): Absolutely.

Traci Miller (35:27):
We have a lot of masculine bases too. I mean, they're not pink or they're, they're all er tone, so they're,

it does have a masculine feel to 'em

Ron Lyons (35:35):

So they can, so, so these people can actually come in and they can build this thing and then walk out with it mm-hmm. And feel like they were a part of creating something. I mean, what a unique opportunity.

Andrew Miller (35:47):

Yeah. There's been, it's actually been a pretty decent feature because the ability to bring stuff in, you know, whatever vessel it is because there's so many new folks moving to Celina, right. I mean, we've heard it, we've said it earlier that, you know, I'll, I'll be back when my house is done. Well, you know, a lot of the stuff, wherever they moved from, it worked great in that space. Whatever it is, corner, shelf, whatever. And it doesn't work in the new home. Right, right. Well, it's still good stuff. Sure. So let's reuse it, let's repurpose it, bring that stuff in. So it gives 'em an opportunity to, to really make their new home a home.

Ron Lyons (36:26):

I like it. I like it. So that's something else I'm gonna have to check out in there. I've seen Yes. So much of this other stuff. Yeah. Bring your little girl. So on my, on my list of things to look for is now gonna include the little botanical section. So yes, we will definitely be back. I, I guarantee we're certainly gonna be in there spending some money <laugh> and having fun. It's a great place, fun, great experience and everything. So that's, that's very, very cool to know that you've got that. And, and your experience going back before you did this is you actually used to do set up, I guess mm-hmm. <Affirmative>, what do you call it? Decoration or, or furnishing of model homes.

Traci Miller (37:03): Yes.

Ron Lyons (37:04):

Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>. So you actually have that experience mm-hmm. <Affirmative> and you've done that before. So you're one of those people that's responsible for the wow factor. Yeah. When people walk into a model home and they're like, wow, look at this. This is crazy. And everybody wants their house to look that nice. It can never accomplish it. Yeah. And now you're, now you've brought that

talent forward and you're doing it in ter mania right now. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>. And let me ask you this, is it is, is it living a dream? Is it amazing?

Traci Miller (37:27):

It, it, it really is. It, I do have to pinch myself every come, every time I do come in the back door, <laugh>, because I didn't really, I, I mean, I knew I wanted to do a business one day, and it is crazy that I am here doing it. It's amazing. And in, in the perfect, it just, God gave, just opened the doors and went in one day and Anderson, we out at a year and a half mark. We were just beat from, I went back to work doing pop- ups, doing home shows, and he was like, yo, you'll never go do it unless you quit. And I was like, well, you normally don't quit a job until you know where

Ron Lyons (38:06): You're going.

Traci Miller (38:07):

<Laugh>. Right. And it, I knew it was Celina, but I didn't, we, I mean, nothing was Priscilla for Lisa Celina. Right. But I knew, I, I knew. So really how we got there was one 4th of July weekend not this past, but the one before. We were just walking around downtown Celina, and we went into cherries and dec equals I did not introduce myself. I just walked in. I wanted to see the, the space, loved it. I could visualize where the workshop area would be and everything. And so we hired Dorothy who was our broker, and I had a friend that was a realtor, and she suggested I write, write them a letter. Just write 'em a letter. What do you got to lose? And so we wrote him a letter and sent him some pictures and things of what we wanted to do and what my dream was.

Traci Miller (38:58):

And at first they were like, no, maybe in a year. And I was like, Ugh, I'll, I don't have a year <laugh>. I was tired. <Laugh>. Right, right. And so and then we were like, how about till the end of December? And that was last December. So July. So I lost backing up the, so he said, he said, okay. But my story was on that when you were talking about things God said, if you, if you quit, I'm gonna show you where, where you're gonna go. Wow. And so I did, I took that leap of faith. I went in and gave my 30 day notice. I gave him a 30 day notice in this. Nice. Yeah. And which was kind of crazy. So God showed me where I was going. I was going to Celina. So I said, okay. And what was crazy, our soft opening was to the date June 30th of the year. When I left wa left my last day. That was my soft opening. Wow. A year later. Wow.

Ron Lyons (39:52): Fantastic.

Traci Miller (39:54):
Kind of went in circles, but yeah. Yeah, there was

Ron Lyons (39:56):

No, no, that's good. Yeah. I love it. That's, that's super awesome. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>. So you've, you've got a great story on how you got here. You guys are obviously fantastic together. You've got, you're, you, you've got a blessed life going on right now. There's so many great things. Wait, one of the things that we do with Celina Radio is we tend to have a little fun. Yes.

Traci Miller (40:12):
I've heard 'em, Uhhuh, you

Ron Lyons (40:14):

See, you know what I'm talking about. You don't know exactly what's coming. And what I'm gonna do is I'm just gonna ask you some fun questions. Okay. So I'm gonna try and crack through that little exterior of I'm the person who owns Sara Mania and all that stuff. Although you're, you're, you're a hoot by yourself. <Laugh>, you, we don't really need to crack through that exterior. I, I could do ask No funny questions. We've already been there. We've already covered it. So, but just for the fun of it, I think I'm go, I think I'm gonna do this because it's fun. Okay. People, people like listening.

Traci Miller (40:44):
People like you goofy. Yeah,

Ron Lyons (40:44):

That's right. So, so I'll, I'll, I'll kind of direct different questions at each of you, but if you if you want to chime in on the answer, by all means, feel free to do that. So, alright. Right. Andrew, you've gotta make up a rule for me real quick. Just a rule. Any rule, make it up any way you want about milk

Andrew Miller (41:04):
<Laugh>. Make up a rule about milk

Ron Lyons (41:07): <Laugh> the look on this.

Andrew Miller (41:10):
So before you drink milk, uhhuh <affirmative>, you have to put a straw in it and blow bubbles.

Traci Miller (41:18): There

Ron Lyons (41:18):
You go. <Laugh>, he's competing with you here. Yeah. Yeah. That was pretty good. That was pretty

good. Tracy, what is the best kind of cheese out there?

Traci Miller (41:30): Dude, that's my favorite.

Ron Lyons (41:31):

<Laugh>. That's awesome. She did not, she did not even hesitate on that one. And I'm gonna ask you again, Tracy on this. Okay. What's something that a lot of people consider maybe trashy or not so awesome that you think is kind of classy? Is there anything out there that other people kind of go, not so much and you kinda like

Traci Miller (41:52):
It? I have picked stuff up on the side of the road and brought it in. So <laugh>, you know, I think

Ron Lyons (41:57): That's a bad

Traci Miller (41:58): Thing. Yeah. Yeah. I

Ron Lyons (41:59):
Can do that. It's a bad thing at all. So Yeah. Maybe you said, because I do that sometimes I'll see stuff, I'll

be like, oh, look at that. My wife's like, keep going.

Traci Miller (42:06): Yeah. Don't

Ron Lyons (42:06):
Stop, don't stop. Yeah. I want to stop and, you know mm-hmm. <Affirmative>

Andrew Miller (42:10):
By the way that that thing she finds ends up <laugh> in my honey-Do list <laugh>.

Ron Lyons (42:15):
I, I believe that. But that's good because you can handle it. You got it. She's, yeah, she's, she's the

Andrew Miller (42:22):
Keep I like the keep driving part.

Ron Lyons (42:23):
Right, right. I hear that quite often. So if, if there was a, a movie that you could be in, Andrew, what

movie would you like to be in? Oh

Andrew Miller (42:32):
Man, I could be in it. Yeah. Probably Lord of the Rings.

Traci Miller (42:35):
I knew he was gonna say that.

Ron Lyons (42:36):
Lord of the Rings. Val, that was interest. Tell me about that.

Andrew Miller (42:40):
Yeah, that my son and I have watched all six of those movies.

Traci Miller (42:45): It's fun

Andrew Miller (42:45):
All the time. It's on all the time. All the time. Yeah. Yeah. My son knows all the words by heart. Just, it's

crazy. So

Ron Lyons (42:50):
Who's, so who's the character that you relate with in that whole series? Are are you the Gandalf or you

the who, who

Andrew Miller (42:57):
Are you? I'd probably just be a Hobbit <laugh>.

Ron Lyons (43:00): I'd be a

Traci Miller (43:00):
Hobbit. You'd be a tall hobbit.

Ron Lyons (43:03):
We had a little discussion about music well ago. What's your favorite kind of music? Tracy?

Traci Miller (43:07):
How would you describe my music? Is it indie? I'll look up. I know he asked you the person <laugh>. I,

it's, it's alternative, but it's not rock alternative. It's like indie alternatives,

Ron Lyons (43:19):
Not seventies. I would, I would

Traci Miller (43:21):
Guess I do love seventies too. Uhhuh <affirmative>. I guess it'd like roller scape, like disco seventies

Ron Lyons (43:26):
Uhhuh. I would, I would kind of guess that that might be something that you'd really like. You'd be a

Fleetwood Mac, Abba kind of Yes.

Traci Miller (43:31): Yes.

Ron Lyons (43:32):
End of that kind of thing. Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>. So, so alternative kind

Traci Miller (43:35):
Of, it's kind of the music I play in the store.

Ron Lyons (43:37):
I wanna, I want to ask Andrew this. Andrew, you like sports or not so much?

Andrew Miller (43:42): Y'all like them?

Ron Lyons (43:43):

Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative> you like sports? Mm-Hmm. <Affirmative>. So, so you might be able to answer this real well. So what is a sport that you would choose out of all the sports you know of, what's a sport that you would choose that, that you would make a mandatory amount of alcohol consumption part of the game. <Laugh>. Oh my gosh. What would be the most fun? To make it mandatory that they consume a certain amount of alcohol before they do that sport.

Andrew Miller (44:07):
Before they do the sport. Right. Gosh. Which

Traci Miller (44:11):
You're talking beer or bourbon.

Ron Lyons (44:13):
Well, let's, let's go real serious. The big stuff

Andrew Miller (44:16):
Hunting's out <laugh> because there's fire. Cause there's firearms involved.

Ron Lyons (44:21): That's totally out.

Andrew Miller (44:24):
Bowling. I'll just say bowling <laugh>. Right.

Traci Miller (44:27):
Let's make it a little more interesting. Right.

Andrew Miller (44:29): Bowling.

Ron Lyons (44:31):

Nobody ever gets a strike. It's well, not on their own lane. So. Yeah. Right. I like that. So you guys obviously have all this great and fun stuff going on. You're, you're, you're hilarious with, I mean, I just

can't even imagine I'd, I'd love to just hang around you guys for a day and just like, kind of be a part of your world. How, how would people connect with you? Ron Lyons (45:43):

Five. All right, guys, I think that you are absolutely living the dream. Thank you so very much for being on the show today, and we're looking forward to everything that Ter Mania turns into and seeing you guys on the square. I'll tell you this, I'll just say this to everyone listening right now. If you see these two out anywhere on the square or if you, if you happen to be going into the store, you need to find them and meet them because they are awesome. So guys, thank you so very much for being on the show today. Thank you. Thanks for having us. Thank

Traci Miller (46:12): You.

Ron Lyons (46:19):

So guys, what did you think about Andrew and Tracy Miller and have you been Toter Mania yet? It's just right there as you're coming into the Square right across from Tender, and it's just a fantastic shop. I only wish that I had the kind of talent it takes to be able to put those types of items together, make a store, make a life out of selling those things. Now to tell you what, not only is the store awesome, but Andrew and Tracy are awesome. They're just fantastic people and it's a hundred percent worth stopping by the store to walk around, check out all of the things they put together, look for the disco ball, go find out what's in the bathroom, and just really get to know Andrew and Tracy. Now, they certainly make Celina a better place, and I'll tell you what guys, we've got some amazing people still coming up on the show. We've got some fantastic episodes. We're gonna have an awful lot of fun. And when we have to, we'll deal with some of the issues that are facing this city. So guys, until then, stay safe and God bless. Oh, and one more thing. Since this episode is actually releasing before Christmas, I'm gonna take the episode out with some Christmas music and I'm gonna do my best to have a little short episode, but I'm gonna release on Christmas Day all about the reason for Christmas. Now, if I don't happen to talk to you again until after the holidays, then I'll leave you with this Merry Christmas.
